Join us on Sunday, February 19, at 3 p.m. at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library for the program, “Where did the name “Tarheels” originate?” Did you know North Carolina, including our community, was the world’s greatest producer of products used to build our wood sailing fleet for 100 years, including the construction of the CSS Ram Neuse? Come learn how we participated in the building of these beautiful ships with Mr. Harry Warren, Director, North Carolina Museum of Forestry. Mr. Warren will talk about the important role of tar, pitch, turpentine and naval stores in North Carolina history from colonial times to the early 20th century. Mr. Warren will bring artifacts that all are sure to enjoy seeing!
