Kinston-Lenoir Hosts Juneteenth

On June 23, 2018, the community gathered in the Schechter Auditorium of the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library to celebrate the end of slavery in the United States. The celebration stems from the reading of the proclamation by General Gordon Granger in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865. Celebrations have continued for over one hundred and forty years.
The Library’s celebration featured Dr. Malcolm Beech, Sr, Brenda Stewart, Choci Grey, and the Jonkonnu dancers from Tryon Palace in New Bern (featured in the following images).
