Let’s Read 2013

The Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library, sponsored by the Kinston-Lenoir County Friends of the Library, will be offering several events in celebration of Let’s Read, a community-wide celebration of reading.  The book at the center of this year’s programming will be Edith Hamilton’s Mythology.  The festivities will commence with a lecture by esteemed East Carolina University professor James Holte on classical mythology’s enduring legacy on March 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Schechter Auditorium of the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library.

March 28 – Dr. James Holte – Discover the lasting impact created by classical mythology with this esteemed East Carolina University professor.  7:30 p.m. in the Schechter Auditorium of the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library.

April 9 – YA Mythology Papercraft – Learn to fold your favorite 3-D mythological creatures such as the Cyclops, Pegasus, and more.  4:00 p.m. at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library.

April 13 – Screening of The Lightning Thief – Join us for a screening of the film based on the popular young adult novel by Rick Riordan.  3:00 p.m. in the Schechter Auditorium of the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library.

April 18 – Constellations and Mythology with the Neuseway Planetarium’s Cindy Bingham –  Come learn how some of the most familiar constellations in the sky have a rich association with ancient mythology.  7:30 p.m. in the Schechter Auditorium of the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library.

April 20 – Kid Olympics – Children 12 and under will participate in kid-friendly versions of favorite Olympic events in the Ancient Greek tradition.  3:00 p.m. in the Schechter Auditorium of the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library.

April 23 – Poetry Contest Awards Ceremony – Join us and hear the contest winners recite their poems based upon mythological characters, settings, and themes.  7:30 p.m. in the Schechter Auditorium of the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library.

April 27 – Mythology, Music, and Art – Learn how classic al mythology has influenced great art, music, and literature throughout the ages.  3:00 p.m. in the Schechter Auditorium of the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library.
