LIBRARY AWARDED FEDERAL GRANT
January 9, 2006

Kinston, NC – The Neuse Regional Library has been awarded a federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources.  The Library will receive $15,000 to hire a consultant to create a patron-centered five-year plan over the next six months.

Dr. Robert Burgin of RB Software & Consulting will work with a Community Committee to identify the community vision and service priorities for the library.  Agnes Ho, Director of Libraries, stated “The Library is very fortunate to have the backing of our community.  As we grow, it is important that the stated goals of the library match the needs of the citizens we serve.”

The Neuse Regional Library received one of seven planning grants awarded to North Carolina libraries in a mid-year award cycle in which total funding equaled just over $100,000.  In addition to providing grants for planning, the LSTA grant program administered by the State Library funds projects across the state that support learning and discovery for children and teens, achieve equity in library service, and create a climate for innovation and change.
