Greene County Public Library
Library Assistant I

 

Job Class: Part-Time (19 hours per week)

Salary Range: $12.50 an hour

Direct Supervisor: Greene County Public Library Branch Manager

Tentative Hours:  Mondays through Wednesdays 3:00 - 8:00 and Fridays 2:00 - 6:00, schedule includes nights and rotating Saturdays


 

EXAMPLES OF WORK

 

  • Provides friendly and helpful library services to patrons while working the public desk, including information services, reader’s advisory, technology assistance, circulation of materials, and more.

  • Participates in the development and implementation of library programming.

  • Assists with collection maintenance tasks such as reshelving, inventory, and weeding. 

  • Performs special projects as assigned by supervisor and related work as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

 

  • Working knowledge of departmental routines and procedures

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with library personnel and patrons

  • Appropriate knowledge of the practical application of computer operations and procedures

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of experience and training

  • North Carolina driver’s license acquired within 30 days of employment

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Physical Demands:  Job involves a considerable amount of movement and activity.  Work routinely involves lifting or handling material weighing up to 30 lbs., using a computer, traveling to other work locations, and transporting materials and equipment related to programming and outreach services.
