Salary Range, depending on qualifications: $14.25 per hour
Direct Supervisor: Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library Youth Services Supervisor
Schedule: Includes morning shifts and a rotating Saturday
Job Purpose: Under the direction of the Youth Services Supervisor, support the overall mission of the Neuse Regional Libraries by effectively providing library services to children and their caregivers.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Plan and present diverse and creative programs for children and their caregivers that include Early Literacy, afterschool and outreach programs, as well as other activities that support literacy.
- Assist the Youth Services Supervisor with the Summer Reading Program and other special programs.
- Provide friendly, enthusiastic, and helpful library services to our patrons while working the public service desk. This could include: reference questions, reader’s advisory, technology assistance, circulation of materials, and more.
- Ensure all policies and procedures of the Neuse Regional Libraries are followed.
- Perform special projects as assigned by supervisor and related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Capacity to become familiar with departmental routines and procedures in the area of assignments
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with library personnel and patrons
- Appropriate knowledge of the practical application of computer operations and procedures
- Effective communication by phone, e-mail, or in person in both one-on-one and group settings
REQUIREMENTS
- Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of experience and training is
required.
- North Carolina driver’s license acquired within 30 days of employment
- Background check and drug test prior to employment
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands: Job involves a considerable amount of movement and activity. Work routinely involves lifting or handling material weighing up to 30 lbs., using a computer, traveling to other work locations, and transporting materials and equipment related to programming and outreach services.

POSITION TITLE: Librarian I (Full-time)
Salary Range: $35,400 a year or upwards depending on qualifications

Hours: Schedule includes evenings and rotating Saturdays
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
An employee in this class performs responsible professional work under the direct supervision of the Outreach and Extension Services Supervisor in support of the Library’s strategic plan; bringing to these tasks the training gained from a four-year college degree or the equivalent amount of library experience.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Provides friendly and helpful library services to patrons while working the public desk, including information services, reader’s advisory, technology assistance, circulation of materials, and more.
- Plans and presents diverse and creative programming for all ages.
- Plans, promotes, and provides outreach services.
- Assists with collection development while complying with budget parameters, and performs collection maintenance such as inventory and weeding in accordance with professional standards.
- Analyzes usage data to make community-centered decisions.
- Participates in committees both inside and outside the library.
- Supervises subordinates and volunteers.
- Enforces operational policies and procedures.
- Performs special projects as assigned by supervisor and related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Considerable knowledge of library routine and procedures in the area of assignment by end of introductory period
- Ability to develop a varied, relevant, and balanced collection of materials
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with library personnel and patrons
- Effective communication by phone, e-mail, or in person in both one-on-one and group settings
- Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment
REQUIREMENTS
- A four (4) year degree or an equivalent combination of experience and training
- North Carolina driver’s license acquired within 30 days of employment
