The Blog

Book Clubs are back! Make new friends and gain new perspectives by joining one of the many book clubs taking place each month at our Neuse Regional Library locations. Safe social distancing guidelines will be implemented and masks will be required but that won’t stand in the way of stimulating conversations with fellow book lovers!

The Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library will host two monthly book clubs. Our standard Book Talking takes place every third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. On November 19 the title up for discussion will be I Almost Forgot About You by Terry McMillan, in which an optometrist decides to make some major changes in her life and finds herself on a wild journey that may or may not include a second chance at love.

Our new Wellness Walk Book Club is held on the third Thursday of every month at 12:15 p.m. Come meet up with us at the Farmer’s Market to walk along the Neuse River and discuss books that will promote a stronger and healthier body/mind connection! On Thursday, November 19 the featured book title is Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb, an amusingly candid and addicting memoir about psychotherapeutic practice as experienced by both the clinician and the patient.

The Lunch Bunch Book Club at the La Grange Public Library will meet on Thursday, November 19 at 1:30 p.m. to talk about The Book of Two Ways by Jodi Piccoult. In this novel, a death doula travels to Egypt after surviving a plane crash in order to reconnect with an old flame who is an archaeologist.

The Greene County Public Library’s new On the Same Page Book Club will meet on Monday, November 23 at 5 p.m. to discuss The Wives by Tarryn Fisher, a novel in which a woman discovers something disturbing about her polygamist husband.

Our Jones County locations will be hosting monthly book clubs as well!  This month the Pollocksville Public Library’s Book Club will meet on Thursday, November 19 at 4:30 p.m. to talk about If Only I Could Tell You by Hannah Beckerman, the story of a divided family and the secret that could unite them. Between the Pages at the Trenton Public Library will meet on Thursday, November 19 at 5 p.m. to discuss The Girl Before by J.P. Delaney, an enthralling psychological thriller that spins one woman’s seemingly good fortune, and another woman’s mysterious fate, through a kaleidoscope of duplicity, death, and deception. The Maysville Public Library will host the Java Talk Book Club on Saturday, November 21 at 11 a.m. This month’s title is Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café by Fannie Flagg, a novel which weaves together the past and the present through the blossoming friendship between a middle-aged housewife and an elderly woman who lives in a nursing home.

Copies of each book club selection may be checked out at their respective locations while availability lasts. You can also search the library’s eBook holdings by visiting www.neuselibrary.org or calling your local library for more information.
