The Blog

Neuse Regional Libraries are dedicated to providing the community with the tools and resources necessary to accomplish their goals. One of the most important and powerful resources made available to patrons is technology. With libraries leading the way in the use of technology, it’s important to make sure that the public remains educated about its use.

With technology evolving at such a rapid pace, it can be intimidating to venture into the world of computers. If you’re a novice or just looking to brush up on your computer skills, you may consider making use of the Library’s free computer classes offered throughout the region.

If you are not familiar with computers or haven’t used one in a while, Computer Basics is a great place to start. You will learn about the main components of a computer as well as how to use the Windows operating system. In Internet Basics, you will learn how to navigate the internet and make use of search engines such as Google to find the information that you’re looking for. Email Basics will teach users how to set up their own email accounts as well as how to compose an email and send attachments such as documents and pictures.

For those that are looking to learn beyond the basics, we also have classes focusing on the Microsoft Office Production Suite. In our Word Basics class, you will learn the ins and outs of Microsoft Word and how to use tools such as font styles and paragraph formatting to create your very own documents. In Powerpoint Basics, users will learn how to create slideshows using photos, clip art, and fancy transitions. In our Excel Basics class, you will learn how to input data and make use of formulas to have the data calculated automatically.

If you’ve received a new device over the holidays but not sure how to use it, we will have an open class for anyone who has questions about their device. Feel free to bring in your own tablet, smartphone, laptop, etc., we’ll go over whatever questions you may have.

If you can’t make it to one of our in-person classes, we have made online versions produced by the Goodwill Community Foundation available on our website at https://www.neuselibrary.org/computer-classes/. Visit this page to see a full playlist of instructional videos on a variety of topics that you can play at your convenience.

Please check our event calendar at www.neuselibrary.org for the latest scheduled classes.  Classes are typically held on Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Due to Covid safety restrictions, seating will be limited.
